So a sweet friend of mine introduced me to a Brow Highlighter about a month ago. I really had never used a specific pencil for this use. But I must say I was intrigued! We used it just under her eye brows with her makeup during a photography session that we did. I must say it was fantastic! I had been toying with the idea of getting one for a little bit after that for my brides, so made a quick stop at Ulta to finally get it yesterday!....NOW, I am loving the results I am seeing. It almost gives you an instant eye lift, wakes up your eyes and blends in with your eyeshadow amazingly! I would caution to use a matte pencil, because of course I am crazy about how my makeup photographs and I don't go for flash "kickbacks". A cool try for even everyday!!

this is one of the photos that we used the "brow highlighter" pencil on!

Saturday was full of my little 7 year old preparing to become a Princess this past weekend! When Sunday arrived, I had to take photos from the time she woke up until we arrived at the show. Check out the transformation to Princess! We had SO much fun!

Happy Holidays to you!

A while back, I blogged about a friend of mine that wears a WINTER lipstick year round! I had to break her of that this past summer! What is winter lip stick? Well, that is my version of wearing a dark berry or maroon colored lipstick year round. Its so much fun to play with lip color, glosses and Colorstays, and NOW the Dollar Store and 5 Below carry lip colors made by Sally Hansen, NYC, Revlon and more!  For a buck at the dollar store you can get yourself a few new colors and play....... before spending big bucks on your lips!
One of my favorite things to do this holiday season, is add a sheer pink gloss to a fabulous darker makeup look. This would be GREAT for a Christmas or Winter evening party. It really lets your features play up and gives you a chance to try that smokey eye and have all attention drawn in! -See the celebrities know....

So what should you try this Holiday Season without going LIP BROKE?
Here are some basics and fun ideas:

1. Don't be afraid to MIX the lip colors that you already have
2. If you already own a "winter color" like Maroon or Red take a small lip brush and a lighter color lip stick/ gloss and mix the two together on the top side of your hand until you get a GREAT custom color! Then apply your new creation!
3. For a pale or sheer lip, try adding some foundation to your lips, then lightly dab on your favorite lighter lip gloss.-poof..nude glossy lips!
4. Lip liners are a cheap buy as well at any Dollar Store or 5 Below. Use lip liners to "fill" in your lips and then add your gloss over top. This is another way to make your lip colors stay on longer, and try new colors, without a big price tag.

For my Weddings:
Although I carry over 50 glosses and lip colors on location, I often give my Brides lip color/stick "homework"  once they leave from a consultation. We get a good sense of the color  they should wear on the big day and then they choose the "Colorstay lip stick" for the wedding day.  I have them look for a fabulous Colorstay lip stick that they love in the weeks before the Wedding. On the Wedding day, I apply MAC Prep and Prime for both the bridesmaids and the Bride, and then use the Brides favorite Color Stay Lip stick, followed by a light gloss on the bottom lip. The Colorstay will do a GREAT job in staying on for the ceremony and wont KISS OFF! For the entire wedding party the Colorstay Lip stick does a great job in photos and holds up well into the reception.

Happy Holidays!

Its a special time of year! I would like to take a few moments to say thank you to all of my Brides and Special Event patrons!! Six months ago, a group of friends encouraged me to take my talents and start a business doing Makeup in central Virginia. I really never thought when I launched FBJ, that it would be so well received!  It was only 2 weeks before I booked my first Wedding when FBJ was born. A month later I began airbrushing my first face!  FBJ is growing with zest and vigor and I could not be happier! I am looking forward to a FABULOUS 2011 with Magical Makeup + Hair for all!

I have been looking forward to Kimmi's wedding for several months! I met Kimmi, the Bride to be, about 8 weeks ago, when she and her mother, came to the studio for a bridal consultation. When the day finally arrived I was probably as excited as the Bridesmaid's! Kimmi and I exchanged emails at the beginning of the week, and she informed me that I would be working on 10 people! You can imagine how excited I was! I often get the question as to if I can handle larger weddings, and now I had the opportunity to really show it! AS a one woman show, you can imagine that question would come up. I can tell you that I dedicate my entire day to your wedding and taking care of a large party is no problem!  Kimmi had 8 Bridesmaid's, the MOB and herself of course.
I arrived to her mothers house mid morning on Saturday! Kimmi's mother and father were just the most wonderful and gracious hosts. The kitchen overflowed with laughter and warmth as all 8 Bridesmaid's reflected with Kimmi on the rehearsal dinner and college days. I found myself laughing the entire day and enjoyed being with such a wonderful group of people!
Congratulations Kimmi!!!
More photos to come from the official photographer! I wish I had more of Kimmi and the group, but it was off to the church for everyone before we knew it! :)

I had a BLAST relaxing like crazy this weekend! Its something I NEVER do, and it felt so good!!

I did make a trip to the MAC store for some GREAT goodies on Saturday that I used on my photo shoot today (Sunday) with my good friend Jennifer Phillips! Jennifer asked me to do her hair and makeup (and photography) for an upcoming feature in Pain Pathways Magazine. She is slated to have the cover AND an article in celebration of Fibromyalgia month in May. She and her son Ryan, both live with Fibromyalgia  and Jennifer has done a massive amount of work promoting awareness and teaching others how to live with the pain that Fibromyalgia brings.
We spent the afternnoon in makeup bliss and chitter chatter and I am VERY happy with her BEAUTFIUL results, I hope she is too!!!

Hello all!

So its been a little while since last post..last Saturday. On Sunday, my beloved computer crashed and to make matters double bad, so did my husbands computer! ALL I have been left with is an older HP that my children "game" on! Since it will be 2 weeks before my computer comes back, I have been forced to try to make things work on this "gaming" HP. I have been making several updates so at least this thing is usable! HA!

So I would like to share a Makeup job that I did for an upcoming calendar for the Petersburg, VA area. It was my job to turn, Patsy Stuard, CEO, of Fort Lee Federal Credit Union, into JOAN JETT!

SO, here is a photo below of JOAN JETT for your reference:

and here is a photo of Patsy the way she normally would look:

AND HERE IS PATSY after I transformed her!

I think she looks AMAZING! I am so happy to have worked on this project!

I had a great time with Katherine (Bride to be) and two of her Bridesmaids today as I arrived at her home in Fredricksburg to do an location bridal makeup consultation. She so graciously had a beautiful layout of yummy muffins, cheese and crackers and Mimosa's with strawberry garnish. What a lady and a host!

As always I love consultations because there is so much value in them. For little cost, you get to try on multiple colors and create looks for your upcoming wedding or event that I know you will love. You get a trial run with what will look amazing and get more choices as we create your color palette together. The best part is that Katherine smartly scheduled her consultation on a day where she has another event! As a matter of fact, she is attending a Ball this evening with her fiancee. She looked amazing when we finished her makeup and hair and she was ready to get swept off to the Ball!! So scheduling your consultation along with a evening diner would be a great idea to get the most bang for your consultation buck!

I took a few photos of my day to share with you! I first stopped at CVS to pick up a few items and WALA....Loreal had 75% off their HIP colors! I ADORE the loose pigment eye shadows so I was thrilled to pick up a bronze color for upcoming pageantry makeup I am doing AND I picked up a light lime called Restless in which I used with a Clinique smokey grey on one of the bridesmaids today. BEAUTIFUL with her light skin and blond hair!

A great day comes to an end....happy dancing tonight Katherine!

UPDATE:

Here are a few picture of Katherine at the Ball!
