I just love fall! Its my favorite time of year! I was just at a BEAUTIFUL wedding this past weekend at the stunning Jasmine Plantation in NEW KENT county (photos coming). I had an amazing time doing HAIR and Makeup for several bridesmaids, and of course makeup for the stunning bride.

Today I want to talk SKIN! I would like to to pull out your latest foundation and check it out! How old is it? Does it match your skin color? Is it perhaps, just maybe too BOLD? TOO thick? I have been wanting to talk about this for a while now. As we age, we tend to want to COVER. Spots, marks, and maybe the left over ruminants of our teenage acne. I am finding more and more that women are using heavier foundation to COVER it UP. The problem for me is that, often times, I feel that it is whats causing the IT! The more you use, the more you have to take off, the less your skin can breathe, and THUS the vicious cycle of BAD SKIN continues. I challenge to you today! Buy a small pack of facial wipes. Any Walmart or Target or drugstore will have them. Use the facial wipe cleaners (pre-moistened) for one even two weeks. Every evening, each morning. Use a light lotion should you need one after wards. THEN using concealer sparingly ONLY on the spots you want to cover and maybe a light powder on the rest. THIS IS an experiment. FAST forward...... two weeks....does your skin look healthier? I WANT to know! Shoot me and email!

TRUE Story

I remember walking into a new job this past spring and wanted to throw a scream into the air as one of my new co-workers walked
by me with just the prettiest smile and the worst case of winter lipstick I had ever seen. A few weeks later, I finally gained the confidence to gently tell her that she needed to change that lip stick and FAST! Of course this lead to a huge makeup makeover for the entire staff!

In getting your summer to fall beauty routine ready..... here are my tips:

1. HAVE a makeup party exchange with your girlfriends this fall. Often you will find that they have unopened products of makeup they have gotten as gifts for birthdays and so forth that they dont like or use! this will save you some money, and in return have a fun night out with the girls!

2. Check your bright pink at the door and rethink your lip colors. Trends for fall tend to be going with darker pinks and deep purples, frosty browns, and clear glosses.

3. Think about revamping your foundation. With the tan fading and winter looming, you may need to visit your local beauty counter and try new foundation colors.

4. Think about trying the all new tinted moisturizers this fall. Its a light weight  moisturizing foundation that still contains a SPF in most brands. Great for dry winter skin.

5. One of my personal favorites, Facial Wipes. you can buy them in all brands. Loaded with moisture Cleanser Wipes can remove make-up and grime very conveniently and quickly and it is specifically made for all skin types. Some of them are even loaded with skin craving nutrients!

6.  Nothing says beauty better than beautiful white TEETH! Buy some teeth white strips for that beauty bag and use them as needed! You will be shining in no time and your friends will wonder how your teeth got so white!

7. A Moisture mask once a week is essential in the winter. Moisture masks can help soothe dry and irritated skin and bring you back to life and keep your skin in tip top shape this winter.

8. A little Sally goes a long way. Salley Hansen spray on legs found at any drugstore can double duty as a quick spray on tan for parties and events this winter. With instant gratification, you can just spray it on for instant color. yea, its says "legs" on the can but it works GREAT on all skin parts and washes off in the shower after your event. GREAT idea to cover white winter skin and give you a all over glow! GREAT UNDER makeup as well!

9. USE bronzer, but use it sparingly. Often times we use bronzer double duty for blush, and more. Try using a lighter bronzer on the bridge of your nose around your temples and a light amount under your new pink blush to shade in under those cheek bones.

10. think PINK... or shades of. Stop using bronzers as blush! The orange in Bronzers make you look older and will especially look strange on winter white skin! Start experimenting with lighter and darker shades of pinks. Pinks can be sheer and can make your skin look youthful and fresh even in the winter months at any age!

BEAUTIFUL TEETH.....
Getting ready for your upcoming wedding can be a BIG job! With so much to remember and so much to do sometimes beauty routines can slip away into the sunset! But the most important thing on your Wedding day is look your best and with this you WILL feel your best! So during HOT TIP Mondays I will be listing one tip that will make getting ready for your big day easy! So you will look fabulous! You can use these tips in everyday life to give yourself the glow that you deserve everyday! GLOW ON!

HOT TIP: I think the first sign of a person that takes good care of themselves is to take a gander at their TEETH!  ORAL HEALTH is a biggie in my book and having white teeth is a MUST!! People often comment on my teeth and how "nice and white" they are. The secret? WHITE STRIPS. GET OUT and get yourself some WHITE STRIPS! Many people can get a whiter smile in just days. Here is tip # 2 to go with that...DON'T procrastinate about it! I often hear people say, ok, I will get my dentist to order refills for my  whitening trays or GET some trays at the Dentist. Well, thats real nice if you have your appointment coming up to see your dentist and your willing to get fitted for your mouth piece and so on and so fourth and basically -procrastinate. LADIES.... STRIPS are EASY! MAKE your life EASY at this point. You can visit your Dentist later and get all fit for your whitening trays AFTER your wedding. But in the mean time do yourself a very easy favor and just buy and use the over the counter white strips. You will be happy you did!
FYI: I have sensitive teeth, so I use mine a few times and then lay off a day or two and go again. I only use them sporadically to keep up with my teeth.  Every time I am feeling a little DIM, I just slap some strips on for a few days in a row and it gives me a great brush up!

It was a special morning as I attended Illuminate the workshop. It was a workshop designed around Wedding Business Professionals. Illuminate was put on by OFD. I met Meghan Ely a few months ago as I launched Faces by Joy. She is the precious lady that gave me a few tickets to see the Bridal Show this past July. As I arrived to beautiful Maymont park today, I had no idea what to expect? Just walking through Maymont is a special thing in and of itself!
Upon arriving I was promptly greeted and given a name tag. I also was excited to see huge rows of beautiful laid out breakfast goodies, coffee and tea. What a awesome spread!


The Speakers were FABULOUS and we were even given a Sweet TREAT half way through the presentation! YUMMY! The sponsors and food were just the best!

I had the BEST time yesterday afternoon, enjoying the Faces By Joy Glam Studio with my neighbors! It was a bit of an inpromtu meeting, as one was going, was was coming! By 6pm the wine along with the bloody marys started to come out and the photos were snapping. It was a fun time to be at the Glam Studio!

I am very exited about my upcoming September/ October! I have 3 weekends worth of bookings! Yippee! Birthday party makeover, Plantation Wedding, intimate outdoor wedding, 2 Pageants, and a consultation lined up so far! But, of course i still have room for you!

This Wednesday I will be attending the workshop Illuminate by OFD Consulting LLC
 I am super excited to listen to the presenters and be apart of the workshop!

I am always happy to work at a certain place where the STAFF is AWESOME and the ladies talk makeup and men! Ladies...you know who you are....its the coolest place and I only regret that because I work sporadically at this particular place I miss the daily fun that goes on.

But today I got to spend time with the girl bunch at my favorite work location and talk a bit of Makeup! Today we discussed the use of Gel Liner! One of the ladies said that it was a "bit scary" since what exactly is GEL liner? Is it similar to liquid liner? What does it do, and what do you use it for? were all questions that were posed to me.

Ultra-smooth, Fluidline’s gel forWell, I love Gel liner. It is new and up and coming and much simpler to use than liquid liner. Gel liner comes in a variety of different colors, and glides on smooth as silk. I like to use Gel liner over the top of a pencil liner to ADD more pop to the eye. It can give you a more dramatic look for the evening and you can add definition to your eyes with ease. You will use a eye liner brush.
I have personally used MAC's Ultra-smooth, Fluidline’s gel formula. It provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish. Goes on “foolproof” with a brush in an easy dip-and-stroke action. gel liner is not a liquid, but rather a soft solid. Its Long-wearing and basically Smudge-proof for most. you can find it in a rich array of colors and finishes.

So WHY NOT GEL? I think you will love it!

I had a different BLOG post intended for today, but I was stopped dead in my hand pecking keyboard tracks when I got a testimonial from the lovely bride Missie, whom i worked with a few weeks ago. Missie had the most beautiful wedding at Glen Garden in Fredricksburg,VA. I had the true honor of working with Missie and her family on her big day! Here is what she said that brought tears to my eyes.... thank you Missie!

"Do you believe in fate? I can tell you a story and tell you why fate exists! My make up artist I had set up to do my make up for my wedding canceled on me 2 weeks before my big day, needless to say I was frantic. However when I reflect back on that I realize it was for the best because it made way for Joy. Joy like superwoman saved my day, and on short notice, but not short on service. Joy set my nerves at ease with her sweet demeanor and understanding. I am a former tomboy who is clueless about hair and make up, but Joy made me look like a million bucks. She took my opinion into consideration and did not bully me in any kind of way or make me feel uncomfortable. She is a fun, bubbly and positive person who you just feel like you would want to be one of your BFF’s.  She had never met me; however she knew exactly what to do to make me look great for my wedding. I asked her last minute to do both my mom and daughter and she had no problem and they could not have looked more beautiful. Joy gets an A+ in my book both for the beautiful person she is and for the beautiful person I became from her expertise."

s officially official! I have been working little by little on the FBJ GLAM studio in my home. Its a mix of romance, and shabby chic, with a feminine and fun feel. Washed greens and hand rubbed cloud white furniture meet rustic romance. Where a shabby chic old ladder holds hairsprays and curling irons. Where you can come and feel inspired OR relax. YESTERDAY, I had my first client come to my GLAM studio!! We had a relaxing time trying different hair styles for her wedding, and applying makeup for trial.
I invite you to make a time to come for a consultation! Come get your hair and makeup done for your upcoming event! I still travel to you...but this just makes it a bit easier if you are coming to town or live in town to come a sit a while with me and relax!

I could hardly wait a minute longer to post! I had the BEST time tonight at my long awaited Bachelorette party MAKEOVER! YEP, 6 ladies had a Faces by Joy Makeover!! We had SUCH a great time! I am sure the ladies are having a BLAST at this point of the night, but as I sit here and enjoy a little glass of Pinot Noir, watch my puppies play and watch Never Been Kissed for the 8th time, while waiting for the family to get home from the Virginia game, I would love to share some PHOTOS!!

First, I must say that these ladies are just beautiful! Not only on the outside, but each amazed me with their inner beauty! I listened to them talk about school, and husbands and children, and just watched them enjoy their time together getting ready tonight. They are truly an amazing group of women and I am so happy that they called me to help them with a special event!

I wanted to just do a quick update post before this FAB weekend I have coming up to show you a little before and after of last weeks session with my Bride, Missie. She and her family are just the sweetest! I loved working with her and her daughter and mother too! She looked amazing on her special day!!
